The longest chess game ever played by top ranked players had 269 movements Ivan Nikolic and Goran Arsovic in Belgrade in 1989. Lasted over 20 hours, and resulted in a draw.

I remember playing that game over once on a chessboard. Deadly dull. Better to use a chess program on a computer such as winboard if you can get a pgn of the game.
